Just before we start…
Make Your Own Marketing Delighter workshop - with so many great examples up my sleeve, I’m helping you make your business more memorable with this half-day in-person Delighter workshop. Intro price is only £50 with the code BB2026. More dates and locations to follow.
The other week at Building Brands Plymouth, someone came up to me after the talk, handed me this and said “I wanted to give one of these to you. I felt like they might be a bit much… but after watching your talk, I wish I’d brought more of them with me. Because they make me different - they make me memorable.”
Yes, we’ve all probably been told marketing needs more funnels, more content, more endless page strategies, ways to beat the algorithm, and perfectly timed posting schedules.
And yet, the businesses that actually stick in your head aren’t necessarily the ones with the slickest strategy. They’re the ones that made you smile, made you feel seen, or made you think ooh, that’s clever.
If you’ve been a long-time subscriber, you’ll know that over the last year, I’ve been spotting these moments everywhere. Rebecca’s teabag wallet. Bold Beans’ candidate rejection gift. Barilla’s pasta playlists. They’re small, thoughtful, human, and they work.
So what do they have in common?
Four ways a Delighter lands
Every Marketing Delighter I’ve spotted hits at least one of these:
Message — What you say and how it lands. Does it speak to them, not at them?
Placement — Where they meet you. Is it unexpected? Does the location make the idea even better?
Timing — When it shows up in their day. Is it there at the moment they need it most?
Process — How you show you understand their world. Does it make their experience more human, more joyful?
Some Delighters nail one. Some combine two or three. The point is, none of this requires a big budget. Just genuine thoughtfulness.
It’s your time to shine
Knowing what a delighter is and being able to make one are two different things.
That’s why I’m running Make Your Own Marketing Delighter, a half-day workshop where I’ll break down what makes these moments work, and then you’ll create your own. Leave with a finished Delighter for your business, ready to use.
